  • What does the election of America's first African American president mean to you?

I have to say, I'm not going to fool myself into thinking that the era of racism is over.  Racial tensions in the US will not disappear overnight, and it hasn't.  However, I have high hopes that this is a new beginning to a nation where people from diverse ethnicities will see such diversity as a strength and not as a weakness, that one day, we will truly unify as a people.

  • If you were the president for a day, what would you do to try to improve the economy?

I'm a friggin' socialist and I'll do this: make the U.S. government to purchase 20% of each company that asks for bailout money.  Ultimate regulation: Government will have a seat in the board of directors in each of these companies, so more fuel efficient and alternative fuel cars can be made, banks will lend each other money, etc.  If conservatives are terrified of nationalization, here's the incentive: There will be restrictions on the government must sell the companies' shares within a fixed amount of time (e.g. 5 years) so the U.S. government will no longer be in control of those companies.  By then the shares should go up, and the government's profits from selling the stocks will go back to pay the national debt.

  • Election Overtime, part 5782

Okay, enough about little old me for a second.

#58 Senate race in Alaska...Mark Begich is the projected winner!  Senate GOP may not need to bother firing Ted Stevens after all.

#57 Georgia...runoff is set on December 2nd.  Problem...may not have as much on voter turnout...we'll see about that.

    #56 Recount starting now.

#60 Joe Lieberman gets to keep his precious Homeland Security committee chair in the Senate.  Lieberman is now Obama's biatch, and he will do anything Obama says.  Joe...start shoving your tongue down Barack's throat...like now.

That results in 56 Democrats, 2 Independents siding with Democrats (Bernie Sanders from Vermont and Joe Lieberman from Connecticut), two more to-be-determined races before Christmas.  Of course, not discounting Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins from Maine.

Some of the political pundits such as Amy Walter and Nate Silver have a point.  Democrats do not line themselves up as often as Republicans do, due to the big umbrella and more inclusive political party structure.  Having 60 Democrats in the Senate and a solid 2/3 of the House doesn't necessarily mean anything:

  • You used to be my joy.  No matter how bad the day went, when I see your message, I'll be happy as a clam for the rest of the day -- slap-me-silly kind of happy.

Now your message is still part of my mailbox, part of my life, part of my day.  Yet...that joy is no longer there.

Have I really grown up?  Have I grown out of you up to the point that you're no longer my joy?

What irony!  Ten years, and this is the answer, the end.  All this time I'm a firm believer of "There are no endings, just new beginnings."

  • Okay, if you'd like to pretend that never happened, I'll pretend that never happened.

  • No matter how I look at it...

...the answer is the same: Leave.

I finally figure out why I'm so eager to take on the ordering task.  I wasn't doing it for him, I was doing that for myself.  That ordering system is god awful.  I can write a better one...

This is when the light bulb came off.  This is the part where he said, "People have ideas, and they left."

I thought 2005 was the year where everything came full circle.  It's nothing compared to 2008.  Same work place.  Different guy.  Same schtick.  But unlike 1998, I can see this coming.  I just need to figure out how to go under radar so I don't embarass myself.  Mm...

  • Election Overtime

#56 - #58 from my previous post is hardly over.

Both Parties Zero In on Georgia Senate-Seat Runoff | Wall Street Journal

Basically, #56 Minnesota, Norm Coleman (R) is 200 votes ahead of Al Franken (D). #57 Georgia, Saxby Chambliss (R) is only at 49.8%, and he needs 50% or more, so it's automatically a runoff election in December 2nd. #58 Alaska, Ted Stevens (R) is 800+ votes behind the Democratic challenger Mark Begich.

This is going to be one long election season.

  • Three more Senate races to watch

Okay, this note on election overtime is for political junkies only.

#56 In Minnesota, Al Franken and Norm Coleman are going to automatic mandated recount.

#57 In Georgia, Chambliss only captured 49.8-49.9% of the votes, so not hitting 50%, the election is now heading to runoffs.

#58 Ted Stevens might have squeaked by his re-election, but rumor has it that he may get expelled from the Senate, and special election will be held for the seat, with Sarah Palin possibly coming back to run for that seat. Palin may not have the authority to appoint herself as replacement for Stevens, but she can step down and have her lieutenant governor to appoint her to that seat. This doesn't mean that Democrats is not going to spend money and try to win this seat.

#59 Bernie Sanders caucuses with the Democratic Party, as an independent.

#60 Which is why Obama is pitching in his weight and ask for Lieberman to stay with the Democratic Caucus. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/10/obama-wants-lieberman-to_n_142731.html) (Update: Well, it's to Obama's advantage of using such tactic and strategy of asking Lieberman to stay in caucus.)

#56-#58 are going to be on the news for the next few weeks. Like I said, unless you're as pathetic as me, turn off that TV and do something else.

  • Diamond Rings and Special Things

I'm playing Carrie Bradshaw here for a moment:

Guys, if you thing the engagement ring or wedding ring is everything to a girl, I got news for you: it's an art and science.

For starters, getting fake diamonds for the girl's ring is a bad, bad idea.  The ring is your last line of defense when she's mad at you.  She will be doing dishes or doing laundry with anger all capped inside and she will look at her ring.  The last thing you want to remind her is that the ring is a fake, and everything about you and her, fake.

You can take advantage of the fact that it's the last line of your defense of doing something that you insist that there's nothing wrong, but absolutely wrong and stupid in her eyes: Make sure the ring captures the essense of your relationship with her.  Shop for that ring like you'd shop for anything to say how sorry you are after you made her mad every time.  Trust me, spending time to shop for that ring will pay off in the long run.  Speaks volumes on your relationship with her.

If you finished reading this and still think that there should be a diamond on the ring, then you don't really know her that well.
