Is the UN really effective as a peacekeeper?
No. The answer lies in the fact that in the past, the U.N. peacekeeping forces have been consists of mainly U.S. military forces. As much as not many people want to face the facts, the truth is there are a handful of countries with enough people and enough military power (yes, I'm talking about Russia, China, and the U.S.), but when it comes down to who is willing to provide manpower and resources, the U.S. is the only country readily commiting troops and other resources. Now that the U.S. has taken a detour from peacekeeper to warmongerer, it (1) undermines the U.N. peacekeeping effort since there are still countries looking at the U.S. as an example in either promoting peace or starting wars and (2) undercuts the past effective resources and strategies that was once proviede by the U.S.
